Since watching Alive, that movie about Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 which crashed in the Andes on October 13, 1972 and resulted in the survivors eating those who didn’t make it in order to survive yet another day, I’ve always wondered if I would have had the stomach to eat my fellow-passengers if placed in the same dilemma.

According to JustSayHi.com, it’s pretty obvious.. Somehow I feel it’s going to be rather difficult to find someone to share our holidays within the near future..

Oh do I love globalisation!

Every year, there are two thing I really look forward to around Christmas:

• Mince Pies
• Christmas Pudding

Alas while living on the “Continent” already drastically reduces my chances, sharing my life with a South-Italian practically annihilates them.

This year, I needed a cunning plan.

And even though I am usually quite humble, I have to admit that it was BRILLIANT!

Enter a box of delicious Mr Kipling’s Exceedingly Good Mince Pies, ordered from and delivered within two days from that brilliant place: BritShop.ch.

DBW’s reaction?

A disdainful snort, followed by:

Yep: we actually got around to baking Christmas biscuits this year.

Only three kinds, though:

• Spitzbuben (a.k.a. “Linzer” cookies)
• Viennese chocolate, raspberry and chocolate macaroons
• And the obligatory “Mailanderli“

But the kids thoroughly loved it:

I just wonder which one of them insisted on adding a penis to every “Pingu”-shaped biscuit…

If you are given fresh lobster for Christmas, there is one thing you definitely do not do:

Cook and freeze the stuff

After all, you could just as easily take a trip down to your local supermarket and purchase a couple of those “incredible-frozen-in-sea-water-lobsters-that-shrink-from-500g-to-75g-upon-cooking”.

Trouble was: it was Friday evening and, as usual, the kids were out and about.

So we were left with 2 kilos of the stuff to eat all..by..ourselves:

It was atrociously difficult and we both suffered a lot.

But I can now cross off yet another item from my life’s ambitions: I gorged myself on fresh lobster until I couldn’t stand the sight of the stuff!

Next item: purchase a Caribbean island, hmmmm…..
