This week, TAMedia, one of Switzerland’s largest publishers, announced that their weekly news magazine, FACTS, would cease to exist at the end of this month.
Being a long-standing reader (I’ve got to train my German somehow..) and, thus, a subscriber I was wondering what they would offer as means of compensation.
I mean, it’s not like they were going bust or anything. And they probably publish a myriad other mags.
“The” letter was delivered today stating that:
- My subscription had been prolonged by a massive 20%!
- I was now a happy subscriber to…. the Sonntagszeitung.
Makes real sense: most people already have a Sunday paper and those who prefer to browse through current events and colour pictures during the course of a week will naturally be really happy to switch to a Zürich-orientated weekly newspaper!
And the 20%: wow! So basically, once I decide not to renew, I still get it for another 2 months..
Yet another management brain-fart.
And yet another challenge for “yours truely”:
Dear Sir or Madam, many thanks for your generous offer. However, as I am a dedicated SonntagsBlick reader (or rather, my wife is; I prefer the Financial Times), I would much prefer if I was offered a choice of one of your other publications. Failing this, please transfer the remainder of my subscription to my bank account…
And all that in German, of course; thanks to my long-standing loyalty to Facts.
